A LITTLE HISTORY 

In mid 2009 Sister Flatulina Grande, of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence (SPI), contacted CCOP in an effort to resurrect the Stop The Violence safety project which they had implemented successfully for some time, but had suspended the effort more than fifteen years ago.  Sr. Grande sought our input on the safety messaging. On finding out more about the project, Castro Community on Patrol (CCOP) had no hesitation in helping and becoming a project partner with The Sisters and Community Patrol USA (CP-USA) to help promote and advance the project mission and concepts.

Sisters Roma Roma is the SPI liaison to the project.

Chief Greggy Carey is the CCOP liaison to the project.

Chief Ken Craig is the CP-USA liaison to the project.

 

STOP THE VIOLENCE PROJECT MISSION & CONCEPTS

The mission of the Stop The Violence project is to  raise awareness to the tragic increase in crime and reclaim our neighborhoods. We are educating and arming our community to stay safe. We are distributing free anti-violence materials including STOP THE VIOLENCE window placards, whistles and safety information. It is time to purge the violence and bring safety back to our communities.

The project has multiple concepts and strategies to achieve this mission including:

  • Providing free safety information on-line and during public outreach events

  • Providing free safety whistles and condoms during public outreach events

  • Providing common sense safety tips on clubbing, tricking, dating and other common activities that sometimes increase our risks

  • Providing a forum for the public to share and exchange information and ideas on safety or on incidents they are aware of through web presence and social media outlets

  • Providing STOP THE VIOLENCE window placards which send a clear message in the neighborhood and also form a network of "safe havens" for victims of crime or violence

  • Partnering with other safety and security organizations to extend the Stop The Violence message and reach

  • Encouraging the reporting of ALL crimes and acts of violence to police, and providing support and liaison when needed between victims and law enforcement

  • Working closely with law enforcement at all levels to address violence and crime within out communities
